The Geezer Project

Purpose

Geezer – usually means an eccentric older person. We use the term intentionally and
lovingly.

Project – an undertaking requiring concentrated and sustained effort.
Taken together, the Geezer Project teaches all of us that aging well [an atypical view] –
maintaining a strong health status and continuing the pursuit of happiness – is possible
and attainable with evidence-based information and actions.

Additionally, this project is in its early years, so we very much view this as an on-going
act of creation. And – it’s a lot of fun.

Program Highlights

The Geezer Project is a program of Fit.Green.Happy.® Inc., a nonprofit company in
Tennessee.

  •  It is a fall to spring program generally following the academic year.

  • We take a multi-generational approach.

  • We use a seminar format, discussions and outdoor experiences to deliver content.

  • We highlight state parks and Maryville College as venues.

  • We provide a common reading to promote a sense of place. For us that means Appalachia. The book is The Coal Tattoo by Silas House.

  • You will have service and/or volunteer opportunities.

  • We are building on the work of the first Geezer group. We will extend an invitation to that group to attend any or all sessions.

  •

Geezer Project II Cost

The cost for the program is $300. This includes state park rental fees, most meals,
speaker fees, and the common reading. For this year, your cost is covered by a very
generous donation. This allows us to use a ‘Pay It Forward’ model. Specifically, if or
when you feel so moved, you can pay any amount you wish and those funds will be
used to pay for the next Geezer Group.
